I work with business leaders and senior professionals who want to ensure that they are making the very best of use of their talents, and that of their teams and firms.

My clients are individuals or teams whose role includes significant leadership and management responsibilities (often alongside professional work) who are looking for ever better ways to work with their clients and colleagues. Many are also facing some form of change in their professional role and/or their lives.

They use me as a sounding board for their thinking, especially when faced with difficult choices or situations; a catalyst to ensure they maximise their time and energy in the face of conflicting demands; and a source of support - and challenge - for developing new goals, skills and habits.

My clients come from many of the top 20 UK originating and several US international law firms, as well as from financial services, construction, technology and other professional services firms. Thirty years’ of practical experience and extensive formal training enables me to combine high performance coaching approaches with mentoring, and teaching practical tools to suit the situation - including frameworks for strategic thinking, and behaviours that support the motivation, development and performance of professionals. I design and facilitate strategic thinking or decision-making events for firms or business groups, and provide leadership development for top teams. As an Associate on the faculty of Meyler Campbell , I also train leaders in how to use coaching skills ‘in the day job’.

My professional background

I have practised as an external consultant since 1999, and as a professionally trained and accredited business coach since 2005. I am also Co-Director of the International Law Management Executive Programme for senior lawyers run by Instituto Empresa in Madrid.

Before founding Sherwood in 1999, I practised as an intellectual property and media lawyer and taught commercial law at Cambridge University before spending twelve years in a senior management role at leading law firm Freshfields, - developing and leading its first generation professional services infrastructure including knowledge management and education and training functions as well as a number of other strategic projects. Alongside my ‘day job’, I co- designed, and delivered for ten years, the first specialist MBA for lawyers at Nottingham Law School.
