We were delighted to welcome Alicia Millar, EME Learning & Development Manager for Reed Smith as our guest speaker at our Coaching Community Brown Bag lunch in January.

Alicia kindly shared with us some of Reed Smith’s best practice around internal coaching. Reed Smith have established an internal coaching faculty with all of their internal coaches meeting the same requirements for professional qualifications and experience that the firms set for their external coaches. The internal coaches now cover approximately one third of all their coaching programmes. The L&D team now also include a voluntary coaching element in all key L&D programmes which they have been able to demonstrate has helped those participants who have taken up the offer of coaching to be more successful in transferring the learning back into their personal practice.

By being rigorous around the measurement of the benefits of the coaching, Alicia and her colleagues have been able to demonstrate significant ROI for the programmes they have introduced, which has helped to create further support from their internal stakeholders (including some initial sceptics) for the coaching support they have been offering.

Well done to Reed Smith on raising the bar and thank you very much for generously sharing your experiences with our coaching community.
